What Do We Need
This is easy to say: Audio. Great audio that fits any media, especially games, to be exact. In all forms – This can be audio samples, short sound fx waves of all kind, complete background music tracks, title tracks, sound- and music-packages. If you plan to submit large audio packages, for example sound libraries or big background music packs, you can upload them as .zip-files including all files or tracks.
We recommend you to upload all files as single versions (additionally). Even if you have a music pack with 10 tracks in the store you can upload each track in the package additionally if customers are interested in a certain composition. The maximum upload size currently is 200MB though, so if your packages are bigger than 200MB, please contact us directly so we can put them in the store via FTP.
General Submission Guidelines
Check that your title, description and tags follow our formatting standards. Your item title and description must accurately describe your item and elements. Both should provide relevant information that makes it easy for buyers to find items meeting their needs.
The title field should always be relevant, concise, and professional looking. The following guidelines are examples of good and bad naming practices:
“This is the File Title” – Capitalize the first letter in each word. Small words like “of” and “an” may be lowercase.
“Template with CMS” – Capitalize acronyms and abbreviations like XML and PSD.
“WordPress Template” – Follow the industry standard even if it doesn’t follow the normal capitalization rules. For example, use jQuery and WordPress instead of Jquery and WordPress.
“THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE” – Do not use all CAPS.
“this is also not acceptable” – Do not use all lowercase.
“Beautiful File” or “The Best Template” – Do not use subjective words like brilliant, amazing, or best. These words describe your opinion rather than what the file actually is.
“User9909 – File Name” – Do not append your username or any other less-relevant information to the file name.
“Apple-like Design” – Do not describe what your item is similar to in its title, describe what it actually is.
Your description must accurately describe all elements of your audio file or package, its components and potential uses. Get some tips.
Enter a maximum of 50 tags that accurately describe your item. Tags should be lower case, separated by commas, spelled correctly (using American Standard English) and should relate to your item and its possible uses. Note: Tags may be more than one word. EG. “community service”, “cross-media”.
We will only accept .wav files for 2-track stereo (or mono) sources.
Bit Depth & Sample Rates
We will only accept audio files that are uploaded at a bit depth of 16-bit and a sample rate of 48kHz or 44.1kHz. Do not encode your audio at any other sample rate or bit depth.
Audio File Length
The minimum length for an audio file is 2 seconds. Short samples may be categorized differently than an audio file with several versions of that sample, and may be valued differently. There is a 4-minute maximum length for the audio. In general the more value you can add by including additional samples, or phrases to a sample the more downloads you should experience.
All audio is exciting when its integrity is intentional and realized. That buzz from your mother’s old fridge in the back of your recording is probably only nostalgic to you. Having said this, in context or as an isolated element, that same buzz is gold.
Keep it clean. Let the source of your audio be what it is, just don’t clip the source (by recording it at or above zero decibels, which is not only too loud, but your digital device stops recording above this level). Any material received exceeding 0db will be rejected. It is best to be conservative (-6db to -3db) and leave the end user a few db to play with.
Please only upload audio without lyrics. Audio 4 Games is platform for background music and sound fx, not for bands or music projects that want to sell their band work. Only instrumental music compositions will be accepted!
We are looking for interesting and usable content of the highest quality. Poor quality recordings, uninteresting content, or music created with poor musicianship, intonation and errors may be rejected.
In choosing effects for your creations remember to leave some flexibility for the end user. The use of effects reflects more of the creator’s taste than it does to the needs of the end user. Having said that, if your triple compressed, quadruple distortion, filtered delay, re-compressed flanged mayhem is just what the world needs to steer humanity back on course, then send it, because we want to hear it too.
In this case there is an excess of reverb put over a vocal track. Vocal reverb can be a very acceptable effect, but in this case it becomes a distraction rather than adding to the quality of the track. While the use of effects can be very subjective, generally heavy effects added to a mix tend to reduce a track’s usability.
Audio 4 Games requires that you are the owner/creator of all performances and recordings. Only unique content will be accepted, audio that has been deemed to be copied or fraudulent will be removed, and the submitter may be subject to legal prosecution.
Every upload of audio content that includes other musician’s work requires a talent release even if you are the rights holder. You are required to provide completed talent releases for the songwriter, composer, all performers and any other person or entity with any right to the sound, song (both lyrics and musical composition) and sound recording.
If any rights holder is a minor (a child under the age of 18), the talent release must also be signed by the parent or legal guardian.
Valid witness signatures must appear for each talent (or rights owner) on the talent release. It must be someone other than you or another talent on the release. Selective Stock does not accept digitally created or digitally signed talent releases (this includes using script fonts as signatures, e-signatures and scanning and then pasting into the talent release.)
